Sermon Notes for July 23
LUTHERAN CONFIDENTIAL: Wittenberg, Germany in the summer of 1515. Two years before the 95 Theses are written, a young monk and professor begins his lectures on the letter of St. Paul to the Romans. Martin Luther had wrestled with his inner demons and this opened his eyes to see the Christian life in a new way. Before there was a Reformation in the world, there was a re-formation of the heart!
FIRST THOUGHTS: The Apostle Paul writes, "In this hope we were saved." This hope he identifies is what gets us through "the sufferings of this present time". This hope comes to us by the power of the Holy Spirit, who gives us faith and helps us to pray.
As we open a new "Lutheran Confidential" file, we'll take a look at the prayer life of Luther both as a monk and as a busy professor and pastor. At Bethany Lutheran, this gives us an opportunity to review what we know about prayer as we continue to be "Renewed by Reformation."
