Sermon Notes for August 3

There is a small but significant word at the beginning of the sermon text from Colossians 3. The word is "if"! Have you been raised from the dead? That is what we Christians believe happens when we are baptized (Romans 6:3-5) and we are saved by God's grace (Ephesians 2:1-9). So, if we are raised with Christ, then we "seek the things that are above." In the verses that follow, Paul gives us a list of things we are to "put off" and "put on" as we are seeking those things. The power for doing that comes from the same power that brought us from death to life!

Join me at Bethany Lutheran this Sunday as we conclude this short summer series on Colossians and commission our Vacation Bible School volunteers who will be serving in that important outreach to our community! Bible Study starts at 9 by the kitchen and worship begins at 10 in the sanctuary. I hope to see you there in person or online!

Grace and peace!
